Draggable product re-ordering

15 Sep, 2011 10:26 PM

I am proposing for a future version of Jigoshop to contain a function that allows the backend user to drag and drop their products in the "Products" admin area to re-order the way the products are listed in the front end.

I know this can be managed in the product type options but it would be a lot faster to for users to be able to just change the product order similar to the way image order is handled in the gallery.

    Added 'not support' tags.

    And created a feature request ticket.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

    Is this something to what you're requesting?

    It certainly looks like it. I didn't think to check for a third-party plugin I'll give it a test run this weekend and see how it works. My main concern is whether the re-ordering in the backend will be reflected in the jigoshop front end as I seem to remember the order of the products in the backend not matching the order in the frontend (I could very well be wrong though).

    Thanks Matt.

    Just wanted to check back in regarding the re-order issue. I tried the above Simple Page Ordering plugin only to find out that it is only intended for hierarchical post types (Pages). After trying a few other plugins, I have found this to be the best:

    Although this is a feature I would like to see implemented in a future Jigoshop release, the Post Types Order plugin works fine in the interim.

    hi jrkellew
    i've just been looking at the post-type-order plugin as my client is after a way of ordering the products shown on the products page so that his best sellers/most important or shown first. i'm not quite sure how this plugin can be used for that as it just seems to be for posts not the products? any advice much appreciated!

    Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but is there a reason we are not entering 'Post Order' on the Edit Product Page for each product and then on Settings->Catalog->Catalog Sort Orderby to 'Product Post Order'?

    I think there's a couple requests here.

    1) Aesthetic appeal to reordering products. Done by dragging and dropping.
    2) Simply the ability to reorder products.

    2 is already taken care of, as Jeff mentioned right above me. But 1 has not, and the 3rd party plugin jrkellew found is an excellent workaround atm.

    We've tried the Post Types Order plugin with our Jigoshop install but to no avail. What were the conditions of getting PTO to work with Jigoshop? Is it the paid version of PTO, maybe?

    Using that plugin, open post-types-order.php

    if ($post_type_name == 'page')

    Add below:

    if ($post_type_name == 'product')
        add_submenu_page('edit.php?post_type='.$post_type_name, 'Re-Order', 'Re-Order', userdata_get_user_level(), 'order-post-types-'.$post_type_name, array(&$this, 'SortPage') );

    Now visit wp-admin and look at the Products menu. You'll see Re-Order at the bottom!

    Wow...sorry I missed the follow ups to my last post as I did not sign up to notifications in the old forum which is now, thankfully, done automatically in the new system.

    The client who wanted to re-order the posts did not actually end up needing the drag and drop functionality. I had tried a few different plugins on my local server and could have sworn that the Post Types Order plugin was working previously as it works not just for posts but custom posts too, which is essentially what the Jigoshop products are right?

    I saw thew post from Tom and just tried installing the Post Types Order plugin on a site I am currently building but I do not see the option to implement it on products now. I am not sure if this is due to the Jigoshop upgrade or whether I was just losing my marbles before (it looks like allwest could not get it to work the day after I said it worked fine).

    In response to Jeff though, while you can definitely order products in that fashion, a drag and drop feature would be an awesome UI addition for can be a bit of a pain for them to have to go in and set a post order for each product and then have to remember that order for new products they are adding that they may want grouped with existing products within the category pages.

    I just saw this response....thanks for finding a solution.

    Matt's fix does in fact work, but the entire product listing is shown, and you can't really order within categories (which is essential for systems with 100s of items like the one I'm about to build). Really hope to see category filtering + draggable sort order in the next Jigo release.

    Tom, I'm not sure, but it looks like the "Advanced" version of that plugin will work to sort within categories...

  14. 15 Posted by Tom on 04 Nov, 2011 08:42 PM

    Thanks for your helpful and speedy responses. We'll check out Advanced, but based on this level of customer service for a free cart, I'd rather see those features built-in to a Jigo release or extension that I can pay for... You guys are already proving that you're leagues better than the rest of the WP cart providers out there. Cheers!

    I can confirm that the advanced version of the plugin lets you sort your products within categories. Pretty sweet.

    So is there a way we can integrate the drag and drop of the plugin into the stable form of Jigoshop for the rest of us?

  18. 19 Posted by Pearl on 09 Feb, 2012 04:36 PM

    I am here because product categories in Jigoshop can't be dragged to the order that I would like. Please see this link,
    I also tried a few plugins that will change category orders but non of them worked.
    Anyone has any idea as how to drag the product categories? Thank you.

    This plugin works with Jigoshop to reorder products:

    After using it, set Jigoshop > Settings > Catalog > Sort products in catalog by > Post order

    Hi, Matt. thank you for the simple page ordering plugin. I tried it and I was able to move the product categories but when I looked at it in my website. Nothing moved.
    Besides, when I was in my product categories admin section, I have 3 pages long. I was not able to view all to move them around. I think it needs to sorted by numerical order. I am just guessing.

    I confirm the Advanced Post Types Order plugin works with product ordering. It cost $25 but definitely does the job and saved my day!

    I just tried Simple Page Ordering (latest WP and JS updates). Sadly, it does not work. Perhaps it worked with earlier versions? The JS KB even recommends it. Other KB articles are relevant to older version and not the most recent, too.

    Intuitive Custom Post Order work with Jigoshop
