Gift certificate option

23 Sep, 2011 08:42 AM

It would be great to have a gift certificate option that somehow automates sending a nice-looking printable certificate to the buyer that they can print for someone, containing a coupon code for products…. Not sure how it would all work but SacredAudio does gift certificates.

    Interesting. I’ll file it.

I agree; I’ve had potential customers want that in their shop too and have had to tell them it’s not yet available so if it’s coming (or anyone knows another option how else I can do it) that would be ace!

I suppose the best way to do it at this point is to sell a virtual product and manually send them a gift certificate via email attachment with a coupon code?

yes i guess so as they can then use that coupon code worth x amount. have mentioned it to the clients so hopefully they’ll go for it!

Interesting and nice idea…especially for the forcoming Eastern “gift period” 🙂

Gift certificates would be a great add-on that I’d happily pay for.

The ability for me to be able to enter a list of codes, then when the customer is checking out they enter their certificate code and the balance on their gift certificate is reduced by the value of their purchase would be great.

And if they spend more than the gift certificate balance, they’d pay the extra as normal. So for example they have a gift certificate with £20 on it and they spent £30, they’d pay just £10 via PayPal.

I’m personally happy to manually send codes to customers, but automation could be nice. So when someone purchases a gift certificate from my shop, a unique code is generated and emailed to them, and the code & value are added to the list of current certificates.

Why not use a text and image (of a voucher) widget linked to PayPal gift certificates. Once it is issued you’ll get a confirmation from PayPal with the voucher number they have issued, simply add that voucher number to the Coupon discount area of Jigoshop. Once it is used, delete it.

It’s a little manual but it will work and unless voucher sales are a major part of the shop sales then perhaps not a bad quick fix?

As an aside you could add a note with the voucher purchase that they need to allow X hours (say 24) for the voucher to become ‘live and usable’ in your shop. This will give you a chance to then load the voucher code into the coupon discount area of the shop

Not that I’m adding much value by commenting, but it seems to help get things done on other issues when enough people get on board. I’d love to see a gift certificate option, or at least a single use coupon code that expires upon first use. It seems like it should be an easy fix, but sadly I don’t know enough to code that type of thing myself….

PayPal’s gift certificate system is lame in that customers have to open a PayPal account to redeem it, whether they want PayPal or not. They also keep a hold of the money for 18 months so they can accrue interest and have lots of fine print involved. This seems like something where a third party does not need to be involved, especially a corporation with questionable ethics like PayPal.

I agree with Brian here – the PayPal option feels like a very unsatisfying way to do it, I’d much prefer the whole process to be kept within my shop.

I am not suggesting that PayPal Gift Cert option should be instead of having an incorporated gift cert option as part of the Jigoshop Plugin simply offering a ‘quick fix’ until the plugin is upgraded to include it.

Jeff said “Interesting. I’ll file it.” – so all I am saying is if you want to offer a gift cert option now then my suggestion fits the bill.

Just wondering if any developments have been made on a Gift Certificate option… Some sort of code that will allow a coupon that is set for, say, $20 to be used only once and/or would automatically decline in value as it’s used incrementally…

Would really love a simple, slick looking gift certificate plugin, that can be added just like another product in the shopping cart. Does anyone know of anything like this through Jigoshop or a third party?

Just wondering if there is any development on the gift certificate option.. this is probably our biggest requirement and we are just at the stage of deciding on an ecommerce platform,

Looking to get jigoshop – any chance you have figured a solution to providing gift certificates? This makes a big difference to us.

You can use the coupon feature for this?

No didn’t find a solution, but I haven’t looked into it for some time. Good luck!
