"Featured image" panel not visible in right sidebar (PlatformPro 1.5.3 by Pagelines)

19 Oct, 2011 12:44 AM

When creating products, the "Featured Image" area as noted in the documentation:
"Lastly, the main product image is added via the “Featured image” write panel in the right hand sidebar beneath the tag input form. The main product image is the one which appears on category pages and is displayed on the product details pages." Is not visible and I am unable to upload product images.

    This is going to be a question for the developer of your theme. Let them know that you're using a custom post type of "product" and that you need the featured image area to show on product pages.

    I'm wondering if it's just a matter of needing:

    add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );

    ... somewhere in the theme's functions.php?

    I'm thinking probably the array bit we did for that last user will fix this one.

    array( 'post', 'product' )

    Any specifics on where exactly to put this code and if it does indeed fix it? - Would it be possible to provide an example of the exact code as well - ty

    This was the exact code that went in inc_class_theme.php of another user's theme to fix the same issue you had:

    add_theme_support('post-thumbnails', array('post', 'product', 'slider-item'));

    you could also go to your wordpress files... search for "post-new.php" and simply add the code that Matt mentioned

    add_theme_support('post-thumbnails', array('post', 'product', 'slider-item'));

    place it any where there and it will work. I use the theme Pagelines.

    I was trying out Jigoshop and I am using the theme "Breakout" from MojoThemes.

    I was surprised that I am unable to add Feature Images to my regular posts and pages after enabling Jigoshop. After trying other themes and disabling Jigoshop, I found that Jigoshop combined with my other themes does allow featured images in posts and pages, and Breakout without Jigoshop also allows featured images, but using the two of them together results in feature images not in pages or posts, ONLY in products.

    The Breakout theme does have a line that supports featured image:
    add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );

    I searched the code and found these codes in Jigoshop:

    / * Add post thumbnail support to WordPress if needed / function jigoshop_check_thumbnail_support() {

    if ( ! current_theme_supports( 'post-thumbnails' ) ) {
        add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );
        add_action( 'init', 'jigoshop_remove_post_type_thumbnail_support' );

    } add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'jigoshop_check_thumbnail_support', 99 );

    function jigoshop_remove_post_type_thumbnail_support() {

    remove_post_type_support( 'post', 'thumbnail' );
    remove_post_type_support( 'page', 'thumbnail' );

    I get the first line that checks whether the theme supports featured image/post thumbnail, but I wonder why we need the "jigoshop_remove_post_type_thumbnail_support" function. As soon as I commented out this line, voila! I am able to assign feature images for posts and pages again.

    I'm a novice in PHP. If anyone can help explain what this is about, I would love to learn something new. I also don't know if this is somehow related to the Pageline theme issue. Just thought it's curious that it affects these themes but not others...then again I only have a handful of themes to test with. As of now, I am leaving off the line that says "add_action( 'init', 'jigoshop_remove_post_type_thumbnail_support' );" and going merrily on my way.

    Happy New Year!

    There have been changes to that bit of code actually in the about to be released version that removes that 'init' hook as it wasn't happening at the right time.

    You could, if you like, try the new version:

    De-activate Jigoshop, download and rename the unzipped folder to just 'jigoshop', delete your current Jigoshop plugin, install this download and reactivate.

    April 28th 2012, I still don't see the Featured Image button (or text) in Pagelines 1.5.3. Just installed the beta version, but still no sign. Sorry, I'm not a PHP specialist.

    Do you have the pagelines plugin installed?

  13. 12 Posted by Ivan Seymus on 03 May, 2012 11:02 AM

    Oups. Am I missing something here? I bought Pagelines and upgraded recently to 1.5.3. Then I installed Jigoshop by following the link posted by Jeff. Is there yet another plugin to install?

    Looking at the page shown in your image, at the top right there is a button "Screen Options". Click that and is 'Featured Image' enabled?

    Well, let's be clear here. You switched to 2011 and THEN pulled down the 'Screen Options' menu and checked for 'Featured Image'?
