7 tips to boost your holiday sales with Jigoshop this Christmas

Posted in Blog, Lessons and tagged , , , , , on by .

Online shopping is always boosted by the Christmas period. A recent U.S study reported 87% of people will be buying at least as much online as they did in 2011, if not more. And the UK is in a similar situation, so how could you boost your sales this Winter?

1. Highlight holiday deadlines, and use a countdown timer:

Encourage customers to act now, rather than waiting and missing the opportunity, by highlighting how long is left for them to place their order in time for Christmas. Make sure your shipping times are included in the deadline to ensure you’re able to get your products to the customer in time, and use email newsletters and social media to also offer a timely reminder or two.

2. Update and optimise buying guides:

Now’s the time to be creating content which helps guide people to your best products – gift guides and tips should be relevant, useful and deliver the right sort of traffic to your website to help you sell more stock.

And you can segment your products in all kinds of ways, from stocking fillers by size, colours, or price points.

3. Customise calls to action:

One of the few times you might be able to use some creativity is at Christmas, when changing from ‘Buy Now’ to something Santa related could spark that additional interest and tip someone into a purchase.

4. Highlight shipping options:

83% of online shoppers surveyed said that free shipping is the biggest reason for them to buy a product from a particular retailer, so even if you don’t offer to send your stock for nothing during the rest of the year, it could well be worth biting the bullet over Christmas. And 73% said that ease of shipping is one of the main reasons why they shop online, so make it nice and clear for them. We have a table rate shipping plugin to help with that.

5. Highlight stock levels:

The scarcity factor is important if you only have a few of a product line in stock and someone knows it would make the perfect present for their mum/dad/son/daughter etc. So alert your customers when supplies of a popular product are running low due to demand.

6. Gift cards and gift wrapping:

Have you considered offering a gift card or gift wrapping service? As the deadlines for holiday post and shipping come nearer and nearer, customers will be under increasing pressure to get their gifts delivered on time, and a gift card/wrapping option is not only a useful service, but could either be upsold, or offered for free as a marketing tool.

7. Holiday emails for existing customers:

You’re likely to have customers who may have signed up for your email newsletter but haven’t made a purchase in a while, so why not send out something with a holiday theme to put your shop back at the front of their mind while they’re sorting their present buying?

Need email options? How about Custom HTML Emails, Campaign Monitor, or Mailchimp?

Jigoshop Round-Up: October 2011

Posted in Blog, Development, Extensions, Jigoshop Showcase, Third Party Themes and tagged , , , , , , on by .

It’s been another busy month for the world of Jigoshop and WordPress eCommerce as when we’re busy working on the back-end of the code or making improvements to our support packages, there are a huge number of developers and designers releasing their own products as well. So here’s a rundown of everything that’s happened in the last month:

Jigoshop developments and extensions:

Mailchimp Extension for Jigoshop: Email is an incredibly important way to build your online business, which is why we’ve released a Mailchimp plug-in to import your customers into your mailing list. It follows on from the Campaign Monitor extension released in September.

JPlayer Music Sampler extension for MP3 Downloads: Selling downloads, such as MP3 files, rather than physical products? It’s now just got easier with the great JPlayer Music Sampler, which makes uploading quick and simple.

Improvements to Jigoshop Support: One of our biggest priorities and passions is supporting the Jigoshop community, and to constantly evolve and improve how we can help you – which is why we’ve recently unveiled our new support section for you to connect and share tips, advice and feature requests.

Great new Jigoshop themes:

Sommerce – an extremely customisable and configurable theme produced by the talented Sara Presenti, and allowing you to really make your store stand out with some simple options and choices. We really like it, and we’re sure you will too.

Animal House – a nice image-led eCommerce theme targetting animal adoption services, pet stores and really doing a great job on providing exactly what you’d want when you’re animal-focused in your business.

The specific details are here, and if the formal roles aren’t quite right for you, don’t forget that we’d love you to contribute to Jigoshop as an open source project which can help you raise your profile and build connections in the WordPress community – and if you build a theme or extension, we can help you monetise it.

Jigoshop Showcase #4 Collette Costello Fashion

Collette Costello Fashion Homepage

Collette Costello Fashion Factory –

There’s a growing number of fashion and clothing shops using Jigoshop for WordPress eCommerce, and one reason is that we take care of the backend to let you really focus on a unique design. And that’s what Collette Costello Fashion has got after working with Manchester Design Agency Carbon Creative.

What really stands out is the custom iconography which really catches your eye and does a great job of conveying a unique personality and style for the business, which fits perfectly as an independent online fashion retailer with a range of unique and exclusive designs. The slideshow on the homepage really does a great job of explaining the reasons for visiting, whilst the Blog and Contact Sections mix the relevant information with design that intrigues you into reading more.

But perhaps you’re here to buy?

If you ever had any doubts about the number of products you can sell via Jigoshop, then the range available here should give you some confidence. As David Cunningham from Carbon Creative says:

“We’d used another eCommerce solution for the last two years which was a good product but just too clunky. What attracted us to Jigoshop was initially the back office. Its just so clean and easy to use for admins.”

The design tweaks really highlight the Cart and Contact options to reassure potential purchasers, and there’s no way you can miss the price and purchase options for each product if you want to buy straight away. Plus the category page really shows how extensive the range is to highlight the different designs and colours to let you pick the product which matches your outfit or catches your eye, and the same is true of the dresses page.

And if that hasn’t convinced you, then there’s good use made of the individual product pages with multiple images and product descriptions. And the best news for us? The payment options and gateways have helped the shop to increase their sales already:

“The front end has all the basic features that a shop needs, and the checkout options for ‘Bank transfer’, ‘Cheque’ and ‘Paypal’ has helped Collette Costello to increase
sales since the launch.

So running and administering the shop is easier, and sales have already increased since launch, which is great proof of what our functionality and great design can achieve. And David also mentions one aspect of Jigoshop that we really focus on and are continually striving to improve and make the best – our support for you:

“To top it all off the support is just second to none. I had a couple of
teething issues which turned out to be down to a 3rd party hosting
company. Jigoshop were very prompt and helpful with their advice.

Whether you’re building a shop for your own business, or you’re a designer, developer or agency, the combination of the public support forms and our premium support options mean that you can have confidence in Jigoshop, which is particularly important if you’re building a store for a client.

We can only hope that the fashion influence improves the standards of sartorial elegance in the Jigoshop office. And make sure you share your work with Jigoshop either on the Forum, or by emailing [email protected] for a future showcase.
