Showcase #19: Art and Mabel

Art and Mabel is a small business based in Devon, England, which offers a range of personalised gifts for children. And as the company outgrew selling on sites like Etsy, there was a need for a site which was clean, simple and easy-to-use. With that in mind, freelance developer Ben Davis chose Jigoshop to create a website which fits with the ethos of the company.

After looking around at other solutions, I found Jigoshop was by far the best choice for me. Perhaps the most important feature of Jigoshop is its ability to be completely customised. I had a very specific design in mind for the site, so I needed a plugin that wouldn’t force me to display the content in a certain way – Jigoshop was perfect for this.

Ben certainly succeeded in a clean and stylish homepage which feels welcoming without being overloaded with elements which would distract potential customers from the great products on sale. The use of icons on the images helps to guide visitors to the most suitable products for boys, girls or the home, saving time if anyone isn’t sure what they’re looking for.

Another good feature of Jigoshop is that it’s very user friendly. It’s obviously very important that things like adding products and viewing orders should be very simple for the client to do, and with Jigoshop it absolutely is. Even using the more complex features, like variable products, is very easy with Jigoshop. Also, its extensibility and flexibility means that in the future, when the site needs new features, adding them will be straightforward.

Overall, we’re very impressed with the site and it really works well with the products on offer – the parents within the Jigoshop team have certainly been caught browsing for potential purchases, so it definitely works for us.

Other features of Jigoshop, like the constant flow of updates, made it a great plugin to work with, and I’m very happy I chose to go with it.

And we’re happy Ben chose Jigoshop – hopefully we’ll be able to showcase more of his work in the future.

Edenbox – Edenbox.co.uk

Edenbox is a great store which allows you to buy an allotment in a box – perfect if you want to grow your own vegetables on your balcony, patio, or even if you can’t be bothered to sort your garden to cultivate your own food. And we’re really pleased that they’re growing their own business by using Jigoshop.

Edenbox Homepage

Their main product is a box set which comes with everything you need, including a water can and your choice of plants (not seeds) which include carrots, cucumbers, spinach, tomatoes, or even chillis. There are a few fans of spicy food in the Jigoshop office – we might have to try growing a ‘jigochilli’. Edenbox have made great use of Jigoshop’s ‘Attributes’ functionality to allow customers to customise their order with the plants etc they want.

And at the same time, you might want to buy extra supplies and tools, so you can also individually select trowels, forks, or even a spare ‘dibber’, along with gift tokens to give a present to someone with greenfingers.

We asked Edenbox Director, Tim Middleton for how he found using Jigoshop:

We needed to create a low cost e-commerce website as soon as possible and we are thrilled we chose Jigoshop. We chose a theme and worked around that customising and enhancing it to suit our products. We have had some brilliant feedback about the look of our site, so we know we made the right choice.
Potentially the most useful part of Jigoshop has been the Jigoshop Forum. Whenever we had a question or query we would find use the forum to post a question and it was always responded to really quickly. Brilliant stuff!

We really like the Edenbox site – it’s clean and stylish to show off the great product photography, and the process for selecting the plants and watering can for your allotment in a box is really simple, clear and fun, with a lot of good information on the right seasons to grow your plants.

Little Black Dress – Littleblackdress.co.uk

The topic for Little Black Dress should be fairly obvious, but it’s still one of the larger Jigoshop stores we’ve highlighted in terms of inventory and options. Built by Photolink Creative Group, they’ve accomodated a huge selection of high street and designer brands, plus the various style options, accessories, and other sections of the site into a a cohesive experience.

For each of the designers and brands listed, you still have a large number of individual outfits to choose from, with handy front and rear views to enable you to narrow your suggestion.

Ruff House Art – ruffhouseart.com

We’re constantly being amazed and delighted by the sites submitted for our showcases – the quality of the work we’re receiving is mightily impressive, and this week is no exception.

Then again, as a Letterpress and Design Studio, it’s not surprising that a lot of care and attention went into the build of a new site, which just launched of December 7th. Letterpress refers to the vintage printing technique used to produce Ruff House Art wedding invitations and stationary, which requires everything to be made one colour at a time and one sheet at a time to produce great results – and it seems the same ethic went into their new Jigoshop-powered site.

ruffhousearthomepage

Developed by Brian Shepherd, the main page elegantly displays the three main product categories; Wedding Invitations, Home & Office, and Bathtub Couches (More on those later). Clear links also allow you to find out more about Letterpress, and there’s a decently filled blog with all the latest products available. The choice of font, and the subtle use of colour works really well to highlight the areas of the page which are important, including the required social media links.

ruffhouseartProductspage

Browsing products, in this case Wedding Invitations, allows you to benefit from a decent selection of images and information on each page, along with categories to narrow your selections.

ruffhouseartIndividualProductpage

The individual products pages are nicely laid out, with a selection of images to view, and a good amount of text content to explain the product, options, and how to order.

But what about the Bathtub Couches?

ruffhouseartBathtubcouchespage

We simply couldn’t miss the chance to showcase some very cool furniture – after all, it’s not often you get to showcase cool couches produced from vintage iron bathtubs. Originally inspired by Audrey Hepburn lounging in a batchtub couch in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, they’d look great in the Jigoshop office!

Head Hugs Hoodies – HeadHugHoodies.com

Some products are much easier to show than to describe, and Head Hugs Hoodies definitely fall into that category, which is why the large image on the homepage is much more effective at explaining what they are than anything we can attempt:

Purrrfect if you are always misplacing your gloves or hat, and you fancy bringing out a bit of your animal side. The homepage also has a useful content block for information and promotions, plus the latest additions to the product range.

HeadHugHoodiesShoppage

The main Shop page has larger images of the whole range, and makes good use of the photos showing the Head Hugs being used.

HeadHugHoodiesProductpage

And last, but certainly not least, there’s the product page which use selections of alternate images, product descriptions and the Related Products feature of Jigoshop, which is always useful to attract multiple purchases.

It’s a nice clean and simple design, which will allow the new website to potentially grow and expand in the future – with a product that’s so unusual and fun, there’s a lot of scope to involve consumers in in the site, and to really go to town on fun articles and competitions, as well as expanding the product descriptions. But in the meantime, it definitely shows you exactly what a Head Hug Hoodie actually is, and given the cold weather for most of us at the moment, it’s arrived at a good time!
