This is actually the second showcase appearance for the work of James Kelleway and his design business Confit. And having previously shared his work on the Bowerbird store, he’s continuing to build a reputation for great Jigoshop eCommerce websites for Art and Craft type businesses with his latest project for Amelia.

As our first two-time showcase veteran, James was kind enough to tell us in his own words about the site:

“Amelia is a small store located on the historic square in downtown Oxford, MS selling unique items which you may not find anywhere else. Hand made jewelry, home good, custom art and prints, children’s toys, letterpress greetings cards, Amelia has it all and more.

When Erin Abbott Kirkpatrick, owner of Amelia, asked me to update her previous website to include a new online store, I knew right away I wanted to use Jigoshop due to my previous experience and it’s ease of use and customization. This time round it was even easier to use thanks to core updates making custom image sizes a snip and configurable products easy to implement.”

I also knew I wanted to move away from the crafty, cutesy, handmade aesthetic of the previous iteration of the site to a clean, minimal design to showcase the great products that Amelia carries and make the site as easy to navigate as possible. Instead of listing the product prices and titles on the category pages, we used just the images to give the user a full on visual browsing experience. Titles and and prices appear on rollover via CSS3 transitions, although for mobile, we have the product details listed below the image due to lack of a mouse.

We think James has done a good job of achieving his objectives and having spent a while admiring the interesting products Amelia offers, it’s easy to see how the new site will help convert visitors into browsers, and browsers into buyers.

And given the huge rise in mobile commerce, it’s great to see consideration being put into how the site will display on a smartphone – it’s why we ensure all Jigoshop themes are responsive to allow consumers to have a great experience and buy via the web, tablet and mobile.

If you’d like your Jigoshop-powered site featured in our showcase, email [email protected] – we’re pleased to say more and more designers and agencies featured in the showcase are being referred new business via our showcase, so don’t miss out!
