Configurable Products arrive with Jigoshop v 0.9.9

Configurable Products (Or Variable Products) has been the most requested addition to the core free Jigoshop code, so we’re pleased to say you can now set-up your products with as many options as you could possibly need for your customers to choose from.

It’s the biggest new addition as part of our Jigoshop 0.9.9 release, and follows great work by both internal and external developers, including Robert Rhoades, Chis Balchin and Jeff Parsons on behalf of Jigowatt, and Konrad Dzwinel.

We’ve also been able to add some great new and improved translations, a new payment gateway and several improvements and fixes behind the scenes.

With over 16,000 downloads and a range of amazing businesses already using Jigoshop, we’re totally committed to evolving the most reliable, easy-to-use and effective WordPress eCommerce solution. And we’ll continue improving, tweaking and polishing the code for Jigoshop 1.0, but even with the high standards we’re setting for ourselves, 0.9.9 is a worthwhile upgrade which we didn’t want to keep to ourselves any longer.

So if you’re already using Jigoshop, you can upgrade now, and if not, it’s a great time to try it out. If you’re already using WordPress, it’s as simple as installing a new plugin via your WordPress dashboard, and you can be up and selling within minutes.

So what are Configurable Products?
Configurable Products, or Product Variations, refer to those items where a buyer can dynamically select from different features, whether it’s colour, size, or another choice set by you. Previously, you could set up something similar by listing each variation as a separate product, but that’s not ideal if you have more than a couple of variations for a small number of products.

But now you can give choices to your customers without any hassle, and that also means you’ll get much more insight into what the most popular choices are. And it means you can create or order your stock on-demand.

In terms of the number of variations you can have for each product – you’re more likely to reach the point where you confuse your customers than any numerical limit. In testing, we’ve had over 20 or 30 variations running – and Jigoshop will prevent duplicate titles if you lose track of what you’ve set-up! But if you’ve got a product with 100+ options, we can handle that too!

Jigoshop adds DIBS payments, plus Swedish, German, Dutch and better French:
Alongside Configurable Products we’ve packed in a whole host of other improvements and features into this release. The main things you’ll be able to see are:

Additional languages:

  • Hey till Sverige –We’ve now got a great Swedish translation available (Courtesy of esbite)
  • Guten Tag – There’s also a German translation plus… (Courtesy of deckerweb)
  • Bonjour to improvements to the French language version… (Courtesy of loxK)
  • And Hallo to a new Dutch translation (Courtesy of arno-melotte)

DIBS payment gateway:
DIBS is the largest supplier of payment solutions in Nordic countries, which covers Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. So whether your business is in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki or Reykjavik, you’ll have the most appropriate payment gateway. Along with the Swedish translation for Jigoshop, it’s another piece of great work by esbite. Mycket bra, esbite! Tack så mycket!

And there’s more:
Not every Jigoshop user will go into the code base of our latest release, but if you do, you’ll find a number of areas have been tidied up and improved. What that means for everyone is that we’re constantly delivering a faster, more reliable and more secure shopping solution, and evolving it for search engine optimisation and marketing to make those jobs even easier for you.

So what do you need to do?
If you are already using Jigoshop, just click on upgrade. If you’re not, then download it now and start enjoying the hard work put in by both the team here and all our wonderful contributors and the GitHub community.

To help you get used to the new options for Configurable Products, there’s now a guide to setting them up in the Documentation section.

  • Chris M.

Awesome… Looking forward to a bright future for Jigoshop, its crew, and its core developers!

  • rszczypka

Thanks for this and especially thank you for the great manual on how to use this feature!

  • 3stripe

Sweet, thank you! (And perfect timing for my project :)

  • Alex Peterson

Superb! It’s like Christmas has come early! Nice one Dan (and crew)

    • Dan Thornton

Hi Alex and cheers. Although I definitely need to make it clear that my involvement is to spread the word about what’s happening, and to provide destruction testing. The real work comes from Rob, Chris, Jeff, Konrad, esbite, deckerweb, loxK and arno-melotte. And none of this would be here without Andy and Sandra who founded Jigowatt, started Jigoshop and also made the decision to develop Jigoshop as Open Source code

I do, however, take all the credit for the Configurable Products guide in the Documents section :)

Nice work! An excellent addition that will be most useful. It looks like this plugin is just going to get better and better :)

  • Al

Hi chaps – great new feature – most welcome. Any news on a WorldPay payment module? ;o)

    • Rob

Not yet Al, although if anyone fancies developing one we’ll be happy to help out with any dev questions

  • Costera

Is it possible to manage an inventory for each variation ?

    T-shirt size “M”, color “red” -> 12
    T-shirt size “L” , color “red” -> 14
    T-shirt size “L”, color “black” -> 18

    • Rob

Yep, theres a stock field for each variation which you can use

      • Phil

Can the variation stock be managed in the same way? i.e. Email alerts sent when variation stock is low?

  • firebubble

Hi, Premium support has disappeared from the support drop down menu?

  • firebubble

Hey, Just found a really nice theme on themeforest that has incorporated the JigoShop plugin:

  • symetrikdesign

I want to repeat Costera’s question. Can configurable product options be tied to inventory?

I need to manage inventory based on color and/or size.

    • Rob

Yep you sure can. Just enter in the stock for each variation

      • symetrikdesign

Thanks for the response Rob. I figured it out after playing around with it for a while. It works really well. I’m very impressed.

  • Sbd

i am facing some issue when im using the Windows Explorer, after i select the size, the add to cart option does not pop out. As for firefox it works perfectly well. Able to advise me on it?

    Best regards,

    • Dan Thornton

In order to get a prompt response, the best place to post issues is always the Support Forum, but it’s not a known issue. Can you post a new message in the forum with the details of which version of Internet Explorer you are using, and which versions of WordPress and Jigoshop you have installed?
