Use Jigoshop for Subscriptions and Membership websites

Posted in Extensions and tagged , , , on by .

It’s now easy to create Subscription and Membership sales and offers with the new Subscriptions extension for Jigoshop. Offer a subscription for digital or physical products, and add customers into specific memberships based on their purchases.

The Subscriptions extension is based on Membership Groups. Customers can purchase access to these either as a specific Subscription product, or they can be automatically added when they purchase a normal product. Subscriptions are based on an optional setup fee and recurring payments, which can be set daily, weekly, monthly, annually or use custom intervals, such as every 15 days.

Meanwhile customers who purchase normal products can be automatically given access for an unlimited time to a members group for their single payment, enabling you to give them bespoke information and offers. You could also use it to supply specific private information, or build a private community around your products.

After naming your new group and setting permissions, you can then create either a normal product which gives access for a one-time fee, or a subscription product which can include a set-up fee along with recurring billing. From that point, any new page you create in WordPress can be limited only to members of that group.

In addition, you can view the details for all subscribers via an overview screen which displays payment status alongside other information, including overdue payments, active and inactive subscribers, and cancellations.

You can also set the timing of automated access to groups, as early as when as order is processing, or when orders are completed etc.

Included in the download are two additional extensions which are required by Subscriptions, so you’ll also be able to install Jigoshop Groups and the Groups Subscriptions Framework.

Offering subscriptions and membership services with Jigoshop eCommerce for WordPress just got a lot easier!

This is interesting. As far as I know, Jigoshop does not store credit card numbers. So how does the Subscription plugin put through recurring payments? Does it store the CC number in the database?

      Hi Dan,
Just checked, and the answer is:
‘We have the order id in the transaction data and can trace the payment back to the subscription (the relation between the subscription and order/item is stored).’

      Cheers
      Dan

Is the customer able to pause and reactivate their subscription service?

  • Carlos Takemura

This sounds interesting but is the subscription and membership restricted to selling access to content?

How easy (or hard) would it be to set this up so that we can sell pay to post services? i.e. members create and own their own posts. Posts are published for a certain period of say 12 months, after which they require renewal?

Hi, I’d like to know more about this extension. If I follow your link http://try.jigoshop.com/ I’m directed to your demo strore. How can I see what’s really available for functionality and membership facilities. ‘Search Results “subscription”
Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.’

  • Jigoshop

@okso if you go to wp-admin and login I’ve just activated the plugins you should be able to play with these on the back end to get a feel for it.

      Thank you, appreciated. d

Is their some way to make this work with Stripe subscriptions? I can’t seem to find anything but one-off purchases via Stripe and Jigoshop…

    • Dan Thornton

      Hi Dana,
Good question – I’m just checking to confirm that it should work with whichever payment gateway is being used.

      Hi Dana,
It’s Paypal only at the moment, but we’re looking at whether other services can be integrated in the future

  • OKSO

I’s asked over at over at itthinx whether subscription could work with anything other than Paypal, so far no response. do you have any idea if there’s alternative subscription payment gateway available for this extension.
    Thanks.

    • Dan Thornton

      Hi,
I believe it’s Paypal only at the moment, but will chase up a response.

However, if there are particularly requested additions, we’ll make sure to add them for the future – as you can see from the 30+ payment gateway options for Jigoshop, we try and respond fairly quickly when we know there’s a need for a particular payment solution!

    Hey, possible bug here.

I’ve got the subscriptions working as far as buying a susbcription product and automatically adding the user to a group.

However, I have some issues around ending the subscription.

    1) There’s no back-end mechanism for cancelling a subscription. Major fail I’m afraid as far as offering basic crud operations goes, but that’s not actually the bug. That is:
    2) The groups tab states that the user will be a member of that group while the subscription is active. I managed to finally figure out how to cancel subscriptions by cancelling the paypal payments. The subscription status duly changed from active to cancelled. BUT! No change to the group membership for my user. (Grace period is set to 0, just fyi).

Otherwise, a very decent set of plugins, thanks.

      Hi,
We’ve spoken with the developer for that particular extension, and we’ve got some good news for you:

1.”The way to cancel a subscription is to do it through the processor. But I’ll be adding an option to do it form the back end as well.”

      2. “A canceled subscription doesn’t mean the user mustn’t be a member of the group. You can subscribe, pay and cancel the subscription, but you still have paid for a period of time. Only after that will the user cease to be a member of the group.”

Hope that explains the solutions a bit better, and that your feedback will lead directly to an update in the future!

Fyi, regarding my previous post, the Goups_JS__Handler::order_status_cancelled() function _does_ seem to be getting called.

Does this work with paypal pro? i.e the user doesn’t have to exit the site to buy a subscription . I have already purchased the plugin but don’t want to have to get a paypal pro account to test and see whether or not I am required to use paypal standard as my only payment gateway. Thanks !

  • drdrstudio

By the way – desperately need authorize.net (for multiple sites of mine) if you guys are taking notes as to “desired payment gateways” that work with this extension

  • Jigoshop

Hi there drdrstudio, I’ll pass your queries on to the developer, plus your comment about gateways is noted and we’ll look to revise the product description accordingly.

    Regards,
    Sandra, Jigoshop team

Hey there, just to confirm what I tweeted on Saturday – assuming that tests go well, support for new gateways should be available with an update around the end of the month.

  • itthinx

Just a quick update, making progress on the PayPal Pro integration for this although it still isn’t ready for release, more tests are needed and the implementation is being refined.
